Normally on Day 100 of this hike I would write all about what it feels like to have hiked and camped for 100 days straight, but seeing as how I spent almost all day laying around in a hotel room, drinking Starbucks, and eating town food, that doesn’t feel quite fitting. That being said, today does mark 100 days of being on this crazy PCT adventure, and so perhaps instead I’ll just comment on how surprisingly rested, energized, and motivated I’m feeling after these two full zeroes in Ashland.

When we woke this morning, it took us less than a minute to decide that we’d be staying in town for another day. Nothing sounded better than laying around all day and nothing sounded more dreadful than getting back out on trail. We didn’t want to head back out into Oregon in that state of mind, so we cut our losses, paid for another night, and settled in for an actual day off.

There’s really not much to say about today, except that it was exactly what we needed. By this afternoon both Pickles and I were beginning to miss the trail a bit and could feel ourselves getting a little antsy to move. By this evening, we were legitimately looking forward to the next ten 26-mile days. It seems like as long as we could get a couple days off every few months, we could potentially see ourselves thru-hiking year around. After so many days, and now after such quality rest, thru-hiking feels more like a lifestyle and less like a short-term adventure than ever before. Now if someone would just pay us to do this, we might not ever find a reason to stop!
